Panglao Island

By h3artinwander - May 25, 2020

During our visit to Bohol, we decided to stay at the famous island called Panglao. This place looks like little Boracay where you can see foreigners everywhere too. It is also evident that most of the restaurants are situated near the seashore since tourists usually prefer to dine by the beach.

Given how small this island is, they also have some tourist spots where you can visit during your stay.

As I wrote in our Bohol blog, we got our travel and tours at the Bohol Cheap Package Tour, who took us to the different tourist destinations.  The package includes an island tour of Panglao Island.

Here are some beautiful tourist spots that we visited during our Island visit.

Dolphin Watching

Part of the island tour is dolphin watching. Early in the morning, we got to see a bunch of dolphins swimming in the area.

It was such a fantastic experience watching dolphins in their natural habitat, not in the cage or swimming pool where they are trained to amuse the people.

Although during our tour we haven't got a nice shot of photo but believe me seeing them near our pump boat is such an unforgettable encounter we had.

Balicasag Island

A place for snorkeling. A marine sanctuary with a white sand beach.

It is a small island with some families living on it, but they manage to preserve the marine life in the place.

The people there told us that if we are lucky enough, we got to see turtles, but since we are unlucky, we haven't seen a single turtle. Hehe

Virgin Island

A beautiful strip island located in Pungtod island.

One of the white sand beaches in Panglao and has no vegetation on it. Purely white sand. The only thing that you can see is the seller's food stalls in the area. Yes, there are vendors on this isolated island, where you can buy some of the fresh seafoods that you will definitely love. They will cook them in front of you, and you can eat right after. You can also buy water or soft drinks for refreshments.

Just a reminder that if you plan to visit the island, you should be mindful and careful not to throw garbage everywhere. This is not just for tourists but also to our vendors as well. It is not just for one’s life welfare but for everybody.

Bohol Bee Farm

Such an exciting place to visit.

Inside the farm, there is a restaurant, local crafts made from local materials, a garden of vegetables, a souvenir shop, and of course, the bee farm itself.

You can choose whatever you want to do in this place.

As for us, since we are already late for the bee's exploration, we just roam around and saw an ice cream stall. I found the ice cream interesting because the cone is made of cassava. Interesting, isn't it? And they have a variety of flavors which you cannot usually taste from the commercial ice cream that we used to. I choose kalamansi flavor. For me, it has a perfect taste of sourness and sweetness. And oh, let's not forget the creaminess that brought life to their ice cream. I would love to go back and taste the other flavors as well.

And of course, we also enjoy buying some pasalubong in their souvenir shops. You can see varieties of delicacies that are proudly made by Boholanos.

Henagdanan Cave

I did not do any research about our Panglao tour since I want to surprise myself for whatever the outcome of our journey.

To my little surprise, I was amazed because the cave has water inside (looks like a swimming pool) where you can actually swim. It has a captivating clear, and cold water. It makes me want to plunge, but since we didn't bring any clothes, so we just took a photo.

Entrance fee: Php55

Nova Shell Museum

Mr. Quirino Hora privately owns this museum, he has been studying these delicate creatures and become a compulsive shell collector.

In this museum, you will get amazed by how Mr. Hora put into everything to make this place exists. From the very tiny shells to the largest shells, he discovered and has named it.

You can also purchase some of the souvenirs made from different shells which is made by the locals in the island.

Located near Alona beach where we stayed and Panglao Town Center. They are open 8:00AM to 5: 00 PM.  The entrance fee is Php50.

Panglao Church

One of the most visited churches in Panglao island is the Church of St. Augustine which stands on the Southwestern side of the island.

It has a grand entrance, which is best for a wedding especially if the bride wants to have an intimate moment while walking in the long aisle.

Definitely not my last visit because I’m pretty sure there are still places waiting to be discovered in this part of Bohol.

By the way, you can check out our video too.
