Surigao Road Trip

By h3artinwander - February 06, 2020

Together with our group of friends, HeartinWander goes for a road trip to Surigao! Surigao is the home of the famous Hinatuan Enchanted River and Tinuy-an falls. It is a 4-5 hour drive from Davao City via private car. If you opt to travel by bus it would take around 9-10 hours.

Our first stop is Bislig City, where we visited the relative of one of our friends. They prepared us a delicious dinner. We walked around the place and went to their public market. The place is not crowded, it is best to stroll around.

In the morning, we started our tourist attraction hopping.

Our first stop is the Hinatuan Enchanted River.

From the name itself “enchanted” you will really get enchanted by its beauty. The scenic view and the bluish turquoise water makes you spellbound. There’s magic in this place that you can’t just fathom.

Before you can proceed to the river, it is necessary that you listen first to the orientation. The entrance fee is Php40 per head plus Php20 for the environmental fee.

Things To Do:

  • Fish feeding
  • Kayaking
  • Swimming
Note: Swimming is not allowed near the fish feeding area.

The river itself is bewitching. Makes you want to plunge right away.

The second stop is Tinuy-an Falls.

One of the famous tourist attractions in Surigao is Tinuy-an Falls.  The word Tinuy-an is a native vernacular, which means an intentional act or performance to attain an objective or goal. The waterfalls span at 95 meters width with 55 meters height.

It is famous not only to the local tourists but to the foreigners as well. In fact, Tinuy-an falls is the widest waterfalls in the country and dubbed as the Philippines’ Little Niagara Falls.

Too bad we only had our sightseeing with the falls since we only have limited time. We still have to visit some of their attractions. But the next time I’ll visit this place I promise not to miss a chance to take a dip in this magnificent waterfall.

Our last stop is Doll House

But before we go to the doll house, let me share with you that we had lunch in Ocean View, which is just beside the doll house. The owner of the doll house and restaurant is one.

Before you reached the Ocean View, you need to take this long and uphill stairs. It is like a "stairway to heaven". The journey may drain your energy a bit but the view of the ocean will compensate your tiredness.

The restaurant really offers a great view of the ocean. They also have a mini park where your kids can enjoy while waiting for the food since it is over looking at the ocean.

When it comes to food, they offer a variety of food that you can choose from. The food tastes good at an affordable price.

This restaurant offers not only food and view but also fresh air.

After eating, we go directly to the doll house. I do not know what to expect when talking about a doll house — never seen a house full of dolls.

This is the very first doll house in the Philippines located only in Bislig, Surigao.

Surprisingly, this doll house is just a small building, but it is full of dolls in different sizes and forms and other collections of the owner. Note that this is private owned. It has an entrance fee of Php10 and, according to the care taker, who is the brother of the owner, the entire proceeds will be donated to a charity for children.

The building is 24/7 air conditioned since all of the dolls are made of wax. It will melt if the temperature is high. And it has a tiny but wide coverage of cctv camera which you would not notice because it was installed at the gold chandelier.

These dolls are not ordinary. They are not the same as those you see in the malls. They come from different countries all over the world. Most of the dolls are in auctions, and worth thousands and even millions. In fact, these dolls have insurance when it was transported in the country. Unbelievable right?

One of the dolls that catches my attention is this doll. She is very pretty, isn’t she? Do you know her?

She is the real Rose from the famous movie “Titanic” way back 1997.  Her real name is Beatrice Wood. For your information, that’s actually her real hair and eye lashes. This is the only original doll Rose that can only be found in the Philippines. Isn’t it amazing?

There are other collections aside from dolls like mini motors and mini cup and saucers.

Look at this mini cup and saucer colored stripe white and silver that is worth one million. It is made of platinum. Isn’t it expensive? hahaha

If you are into dolls and you wanted to get some ideas and information about the dolls, this place is right for you. It may seem not just a collection but an obsession for others but the fact that the owner share these to the public is something we have to be thankful and appreciate.
